Men's Swimming and Diving: Raiders in Third Place After Day One of OAC Championships; School Record Broken

AKRON, Ohio -- Mount Union's men's swimming and diving team finished day one of the Ohio Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championship meet in third place on Thursday at the University of Akron.

Mount Union placed third with 161 points while John Carroll placed first with 210 points and Ohio Northern placed second with 202 points.

The Purple Raiders were paced by Cole Ellsworth (Temperance, Mich./Bedford) and Jack Ineson (Hudson/Hudson) who each placed first in an event on the night.

Ellsworth placed first in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:40.45 and Ineson placed first in the 200 yard IM with a time of 1:53.42.

Tyler Moore (Amherst/Amherst Steele) placed second in the 200 yard IM with a time of 1:53.61.  

In relay action, Moore, Tyler Fry (Massillon/Washington), Logan Palochak (Hopewell, Pa./Hopewell) and Alex Machovina (Amherst/Amherst Steele) broke a school record placing third in the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 3:24.23.

The top three finishers in individual events and the top two relay teams in each event earn All-OAC conference honors.

Competition continues Friday, Feb. 17 with preliminaries at 10 am followed by the finals at 6 pm at the University of Akron.
