ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union's men's swimming and diving team will open up this season with a dual at Malone Friday, October 20th. 

The Purple Raiders will return a young but seasoned squad under coach Eric Mojock who is entering his 11th year as the head coach. The Raiders return two seniors, four juniors and five sophomores to a team that finished third last year at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships. Also returning is five out of the seven All-OAC awarded swimmers. 

Returning seniors who were dubbed with All-OAC honors are Tyler Fry (Massillon/Washington) and Brian Walker (Cincinnati/Oak Hills). Fry was a member of the second place 800 free relay team (6:58.99) and also placed third individually in the 200 backstroke (1:54.77). Walker earned his All-OAC honors with a first place finish in the 400 individual medley (4:07.73) and a third place finish in the 200 fly (1:55.69). 

Representing the junior class with All-OAC honors is Jack Ineson (Huron/Huron) as a member of the 800 free relay team. As an individual, Ineson currently holds the school record in the 200 breaststroke at 2:06.15, which placed him second at the OAC Championships, and then winning the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:53.42.

All-OAC sophomores include Logan Palochak (Hopewell, Pa./Hopewell) and Cole Ellsworth (Temperance, Mich./Bedford). Palochak earned All-OAC honors in three events: the 100 fly (50.71) and 100 backstroke (51.63) where he placed third, and the 200 backstroke (1:53.52) where he finished second. Ellsworth also earned All-OAC honors by competing in three events with a first place finish in the 500 free (4:40.38) and the 1650 free (16:12.79) and a second place finish with the 800 free relay team.

Fry and Palochak also placed third in the 400 medley relay at the 2017 OAC Championships (with graduates Tyler Moore and Alex Machovina) setting a school record of 3:24.23.

Top newcomers for this year's men's swimming and diving team include Zachary Grebert (Chandler Az./Hamilton) who will be competing in distant races while Jared Watson (Alliance/Alliance) will be racing in backstroke and sprint races. Derek Currey (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) will be a utility swimmer for the Raiders this season.

Mount Union will host their first home event this Saturday, October 21st against Hiram at 1 p.m. in the Hammond Natatorium.
