ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union's men's swimming and diving team beat the Oberlin Yeomen by a final score of 163-97 this afternoon in the Hammond Natatorium.
The Purple Raiders were led by senior Tyler Fry (Massillon/Washington) and sophomore Logan Palochak (Hopewell, Pa./Hopewell) who each recorded four wins on the day. As an individual, Fry placed first in the 100 yard freestyle (49.53) and 200 yard freestyle (1:49.94). Palochak earned his individual wins in the 50 yard freestyle (22.60), 200 yard backstroke (2:02.97) and the 100 yard butterfly (54.94). Both were members of the 400 yard medley relay team (3:44.69) along with Brian Walker (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) and Michael Jeromin (Chagrin Falls/Kenston). Fry and Jeromin were also members of the 400 yard freestyle relay team (3:24.12) with Derek Currey (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) and Mark Silver (Painesville/Riverside).
Walker, a senior, also had individual wins in the 200 yard butterfly (2:04.98)and the 400 yard IM with a time of 4:27.56. Freshman Derek Currey also won two individual events including the 100 and 200 yard breastroke with times of 1:06.38 and 2:25.35, respectively. Also in the win column for the Raiders was sophomore Cole Ellsworth (Temperance, Mi./Bedford) and freshman Zachary Grebert (Chandler, Az./Hamilton). Ellsworth won the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:13.89 while Grebert won the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:09.17.
Mount Union will be back in the Hammond Natatorium next Saturday, November 18 at 1 p.m. for an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup with Baldwin Wallace.
