AKRON, Ohio -- Mount Union's men's swimming and diving team holds second place with a score of 181 after day one of the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships in the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.
The Raiders trail only John Carroll (219) and just ahead of Ohio Northern (178). Wilmington (101) and Baldwin Wallace (85) round out the standings.
Sophomore Cole Ellsworth (Temperance, Mich./Bedford) led the Raiders as he won the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:37.71.
Ellsworth was also a member of the 400 yard medley relay team along with senior Tyler Fry (Massillon/Washington), junior Jack Ineson (Huron) and sophomore Logan Palochak (Hopewell, Pa./Hopewell) who finished second with a time of 3:25.48. As the starter, Fry bested his own the 100-yard backstroke school record of 50.45 with a time of 49.72.
Fry also earned All-OAC honors with a second place finish in the 200 yard IM with a time of 1:54.64. Just behind Fry was senior Brian Walker (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) who finished third with a time of 1:56.43.
The top three finishers in individual events and the top two relay teams in each event earn All-OAC conference honors.
Competition continues Friday, Feb. 16 with preliminaries at 10 a.m. followed by the finals at 6 p.m. at the University of Akron.
