Men's Swimming and Diving: Raiders in Third After Day Two of the OAC Championships; OAC and School Records Broken

OAC Championships

AKRON, Ohio -- Mount Union's men's swimming and diving team is in third place with a score of 459 after day two of the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships from the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.

The Raiders trail John Carroll (560.5) and Ohio Northern (516.5) while being ahead of Baldwin Wallace (226) and Wilmington (213). 

Senior Tyler Fry (Massillon/Washington) broke the OAC record of 50.42 in the prelims with a time of 49.16 in the 100-yard backstroke. In the evening, Fry won the event with a time of 49.69.

Sophomore Logan Palochak (Hopewell, Pa./Hopewell) finished in second place and set a new school record in the final of the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 50.42, narrowly beating the old record of 50.46. 

In the 400-yard IM, sophomore Cole Ellsworth (Temperance, Mich./Bedford) and senior Brian Walker (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) both earned All-OAC honors. Ellsworth finished in second with a time of 4:10.60 while Walker finished third with a time of 4:10.80.

Ellsworth and Fry were also members of the 800-yard freestyle relay team along with junior Jack Ineson (Huron) and freshman Derek Currey (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) that finished second with a time of 7:00.67. As the starter, Ellsworth set a new school record in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:42.42, beating the old record of 1:42.50.

The top three finishers in individual events and the top two relay teams in each event earn All-OAC conference honors.

Competition finishes Saturday, Feb. 17 with preliminaries at 10 a.m. followed by the finals at 6 p.m. at the University of Akron.
