AKRON, Ohio -- Mount Union's men's swimming and diving team finished third with 696 points after the final day of the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships from the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.
John Carroll won the OAC Championship (826.5) just narrowly beating second place Ohio Northern (823.5). Behind the Raiders was fourth place Baldwin Wallace (319) and fifth place Wilmington (312)
In the final day, the Raiders were led by sophomore Cole Ellsworth (Temperance, Mich./Bedford) who won the 1650-yard freestyle in a school record time of 15:59.81, shattering his own record of 16:12.79. This time also qualified as an NCAA B-Cut.
Also in the 1650, freshman Zachary Grebert (Chandler, Az./Hamilton) earned All-OAC honors with a third place finish in the with a time of 17:01.48.
Finishing in second place in the 200-yard backstroke was senior Tyler Fry (Massillon/Washington). Fry broke his own record he set in prelims (1:51.05) with a time of 1:50.21 in the finals.
Senior Brian Walker (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) had a second place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:56.44 while junior Jack Ineson (Huron) earned his All-OAC honors with a third place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:07.43.
The top three finishers in individual events and the top two relay teams in each event earn All-OAC conference honors.
With NCAA B-Cuts, Cole Ellsworth qualified for the 1650 freestyle while Tyler Fry had times in the 100 and 200 yard backstrokes. In order to qualify for the NCAA, their times have to be in the top 16 nationally in those events.
