Swimming and Diving: Mount Union's Tyler Fry To Compete at NCAA Championships This Week

Mount Union senior Tyler Fry (Massillon / Washington) has qualified for the NCAA Division III Swimming Championships March 21-24 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Fry will be the 13th seed in the 100-yard backstroke on Friday as he qualified with a time of 49.16.

The top 20 qualifiers in each event earned bids into the NCAA championship meet.

Once in the meet, each swimmer may compete in more optional events up to a maximum of three.

He will also race in the 200-yard freestyle on Thursday and the 200-yard backstroke on Saturday. In the 200 backstroke, Fry is seeded 36th with a best time of 1:50.21 while he was 91st in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:48.10.

At the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships, Fry won the 100 backstroke where he set an OAC record with a time of 49.16 in the preliminaries before winning the race later that night with a time of 49.69.

Fry will be the first Mount Union male swimmer to compete in the NCAA Championships since Tyler Moore in 2015.
