Men's Swimming and Diving: Fry Competes In Day Three of NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Mount Union senior Tyler Fry (Massillon/Washington) swam in the 100-yard backstroke where he placed 23rd with a time of 50.20 in the preliminaries and did not qualify for the finals on Friday, his second day of competing, at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis.

Fry will compete in the 200-yard backstroke on Saturday where he will be seeded 36th with a best time of 1:50.21. On Thursday, Fry swam in the 200-yard freestyle where he swam a career best time of 1:45.22 but did not qualify for the finals. 

The top 20 qualifiers in each event earned bids into the NCAA championship meet.

Once in the meet, each swimmer may compete in more optional events up to a maximum of three.

Fry is the first Mount Union male swimmer to compete in the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships since Tyler Moore swam back in 2015.

The preliminaries will begin each day at 10 a.m. with the finals starting at 6 p.m. each night.

The top eight placers in each event earn All-America honors and placers 9-16 earn Honorable Mention All-America accolades.
