Men's Swimming and Diving: Mount Union Bests Oberlin

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's men's swimming and diving team defeated Oberlin Friday evening 166-50 at the Hammond Natatorium.

The Purple Raiders (5-1, 1-1 OAC) were led by freshman duo Charles Marshall (Painesville / Riverside) and Jason Tondra (Canton / Massillon Jackson) both with two first place finishes.

Marshall and Tondra took first in the 400-yard medley relay with help from sophomore Isaiah Acosta (Buffalo, N.Y. / St. Joseph) and junior Derek Currey (McDonald, Pa. / West Allegheny). Marshall claimed a victory in the 100-yard freestyle, while Tondra claimed the 50-yard freestyle.

Other first place finishes came from sophomore Kyle Kresl (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Carroll) in the 1000-yard freestyle, senior Robert Ranallo (Willoughby / Gilmour Academy) in the 200-yard freestyle, freshman Nathan Williams (Columbia, S.C. / Irmo) in the 200-yard IM, senior Cole Ellsworth (Temperance, Mich. / Bedford) in the 100-yard butterfly, sophomore Ben Hoffmann (St. Cloud, Minn. / St. Cloud Technical) in the 100-yard backstroke, and sophomore Brett Scheib (Gibsonia, Pa. / Hampton) in the 500-yard freestyle.

Sophomore Ronnie Milam (Uniontown / Lake) took first in the diving competition with scores of 124.05 and 199.80.

Mount Union will be back in action Saturday, Nov. 16 traveling to Wooster, Ohio for a tri-match against Wooster and Thomas More at 1 p.m.
