Men's Tennis Wins Fifth Straight Match With Victory Over Greenville
HILTON HEAD, S.C. - - Mount Union's men's tennis team finished up its spring trip with a victory over Greenville (Ill.) 6-3 Friday morning in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
With the victory, Mount Union has won four straight matches and improves to 8-1 on the season while Greenville falls to 4-3.
Junior Patrick Yackmack (Mantua/Twinsburg) won both of his matches and was undefeated on the spring trip with a 4-0 singles record and a 4-0 doubles record. In the match today, Yackmack defeated Andrew Herlein 6-0, 6-3 in the no. 3 singles position and was paired with freshman Dominic Marino (Cuyahoga Falls/Cuyahoga Falls) as they defeated Ryan Haas and Demetrius Bush 8-1 in the no. 3 doubles position.
Marino was victorious in his singles match and improved his singles record on the season to 7-0 as he defeated Ryan Haas 6-2, 6-1 in the no. 5 position.
Sophomore Ben Swope (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) picked up his team-leading eighth singles victory of the season as he defeated Alex Dowley 6-1, 6-3 in the no. 4 position. Swope now has a singles record of 8-0 on the season.
Mount Union returns to action Tuesday when it travels to Franciscan with the match scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
