NEW CONCORD, Ohio - - Mount Union's men's tennis team opened up Ohio Athletic Conference Play with a 9-0 defeat of Muskingum Saturday afternoon in New Concord, Ohio.
With the win, Mount Union has now win five straight matches and improves to 9-1 overall and 1-0 in the OAC, while Muskingum falls to 0-3 and 0-2 in the conference.
The Purple Raiders won all six of its singles matches 6-0, 6-0 and won all three of its doubles matches 8-0.
Sophomore Ben Swope (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) was victorious in his no. 6 singles match over Gene Montgomery to improve his singles record on the season to 9-0. His nine singles victories lead the Raiders this season.
The doubles pairing of brothers senior Nate Fockler (North Canton/Hoover) and sophomore Nick Fockler (North Canton/Hoover) defeated Dale De Fluiter and Parker Abraham in the no. 1 position to improve their doubles record to 8-2 on the season, which leads the team.
Mount Union returns to action Friday when it hosts Otterbein at 1:00 p.m.
