Men’s Tennis Hosts Otterbein In Its Conference Home Opener

Mount Union's men's tennis team hosts Otterbein for its Ohio Athletic Conference home opener Friday at 1:00 p.m. 

The Purple Raiders have an overall record of 9-1 overall and 1-0 in the OAC and are coming off a 9-0 shutout of Muskingum in its Ohio Athletic Conference opener last Saturday. 

The Raiders have a combined singles record as a team of 47-13, while in doubles their combined record is 24-6. 

Sophomore Ben Swope (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) leads the Raiders with a 9-0 singles record while the doubles pairing of senior Nate Fockler (North Canton/Hoover) and sophomore Nick Fockler (North Canton/Hoover) lead the team with a record of 8-2. 

Otterbein has a record of 7-3 on the season is coming off playing five matches in Orlando, Florida where it compiled a record of 3-2 with victories over Western New England (Mass. ) ((8-1)), Lawrence (Wis.) ((6-3)), Onondaga Community College (N.Y.) ((9-0)) and were defeated by Oglethorpe (Ga.) ((7-2)) and the University of the Ozarks (Ark.) ((9-0)).  

The Cardinals have a combined singles record of 35-24 while their doubles record is 19-11. 

Will Willson leads the Cardinals with an 8-2 singles record while the doubles pairing of Wilson and David Seckel  lead the team with a 7-3 record. 

Otterbein finished the 2011-12 season with a record of 10-11 and earned the no. 3 seed in the conference where they advanced to the semi-finals but fell to Ohio Northern. 

Last season, Otterbein defeated Mount Union 6-3 in Westerville, Ohio.
