Men's Tennis: Mount Union Defeats Allegheny (Pa.) in Spring Season Opener

ERIE, Pa. -- The Mount Union men's tennis team opened the spring season with a 5-4 win over Allegheny (Pa.) Monday night, giving the Purple Raiders their third consecutive win of the 2016-17 season.

The Purple Raiders went into six matches of singles play before sophomore Tyler Tareshawty (Canfield/Canfield) was able to win the fifth and deciding point. In the third sets, the teams played first to 10 to decide the winner of the matches.

In doubles play, senior Jeff Williams (Cleveland Heights/Lakewood St. Edward) and freshman Robert Cross (North Canton/Hoover) defeated Allegheny's (1-5) Niall Kneerim and Cooper Miller 8-4 in the second position to win a point for the Raiders. 

Mount Union travels to Delaware, Ohio on Tuesday, Feb. 28 to take on Ohio Wesleyan at 4 p.m.
