Men's Tennis: Mount Union's Cross Named OAC Player of the Week

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -- Mount Union freshman Robert Cross (North Canton/Hoover) has been selected as the Ohio Athletic Conference men's tennis Player of the Week for March 27-April 2. 

Cross went 4-0 last week in matches against Franciscan and OAC opponent Baldwin Wallace. He went 2-0 in second position doubles and 1-0 in third and fourth singles, respectively.

In singles play, Cross defeated Franciscan's David Freytag in position three (6-1, 6-7, 8-6), while he and teammate Zach Teffner (Cortland/Lakeview) beat Freytag and Connor Jooste in second position doubles, 8-5.

Against Baldwin Wallace, Cross again beat out his opponents in second position doubles with the help of senior Jeff Williams (Cleveland Heights/Lakewood St. Edward), 9-8. In fourth position singles, he earned another match point for the Purple Raiders after defeating Brian Carano (6-0, 4-6, 7-6).

Mount Union hosts Heidelberg in an OAC match-up on Saturday, April 1 at 1 p.m. at Mount Union's Whitehill Tennis Courts.
