Men's Indoor Track and Field Finish Third and Women Fifth at OAC Relays
(BEREA, OH)--Mount Union's indoor track and field teams competed
at the 2010 Ohio Athletic Conference Relays at Baldwin-Wallace
College in Berea. The Purple Raider men placed third with 83
points, while the women finished fifth with 71 points.
Senior Scott Thomas (Salem/West Branch) and freshman Charles Pratt (Canton/GlenOak) were part of three first place finishes on the men's side
The duo placed second (6.60) and fourth (6.61) respectively to win the 55 meter dash relay. Then they combined with junior Korey Smerk (Middleburg Heights/Midpark) and sophomore Tim Kelly (Lakewood/Lakewood) to win the sprint medley relay with a time of 3:36.24 and last but certainly not least they paired up with Kris Claros (Miami, FL/Mirmar) and Brandon Stallworth (Cleveland Heights/Villa Angela St. Joseph) to win the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:32.92.
A senior and freshman also paired up for success on the women's side as senior Aubrey Loy (Canton/Massillon Jackson) and freshman Samara Sutton (Youngstown/Boardman) teamed up to win both the triple jump and the long jump relays. Loy finished first in both events with a mark of 36-5.75 in the triple and 17-5.25 in the long, while Sutton placed seventh in the triple (31-11.25) and fourth in the long (16-4.25).
Loy also matched the school record in the 55 meter dash with a 7.40 to match a 19-year old record held by Tracey Miller.
Mount Union hosts the Jim Wuske Invitational next Saturday which will be the first indoor event in the newly remodeled Peterson Field House in Alliance.
