Men's Indoor Track & Field Second at All-Ohio Championships
(WESTERVILLE, OH)--Ty Griffin (Massillon/Massillon Perry) along
with the 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams all claimed wins to lead Mount
Union's men's indoor track and field team to a second place finish
at the 2010 All-Ohio Championships Saturday at Otterbein College in
Westerville, Ohio.
Mount Union tallied 66 points which was 9.5 ahead of third place
Ohio Northern. Ohio Wesleyan won the team title with 114
points.
Griffin, a junior, posted a time of 4:18.77 to win the 1 mile
run.
Seniors Scott Thomas (Salem/West Branch) and Cecil Shorts III
(Cleveland/Collinwood) along with sophomore Quinten Jones (Glen
Burnie, MD/North County) and freshmen Charles Pratt
(Canton/GlenOak) won the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:30.75,
while Thomas, Shorts and juniors Ben Russell (Columbus/Hilliard
Davidson) and Kory Smerk (Middleberg Heights/Midpark) would win the
4x400 meter relay (3:23.61).
Smerk also placed second in the 400 meters (50.11), while Judd Lutz
(Tiffin/Tiffin Columbian) provisionally qualified for the NCAA
Championships with a third place finish in the shot put (51-4.25)
and Thomas placed fourth in the 55 meters (6.60) to round out the
top performances for the Raiders.
Mount Union returns home to host the Mount Union Open next weekend
at the Peterson Fieldhouse in Alliance.
