AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -- Mount Union's men's indoor track and field team was picked to win the Ohio Athletic Conference title in the Coaches Preseason Poll.

Mount Union garnered eight of nine possible first place votes with 64 points.  The other first place vote went to defending champion Ohio Northern in second place with 56 points.  There are only nine teams ranked this year since Baldwin Wallace is not competing in the championship event.

The Purple Raiders have a record 30 conference championships but have not claimed a title since 2007.  Mount Union has finished second each of the last two years getting clipped a year ago by just nine points.

The Raiders return two conference champions in junior Sam Ludgood (Webster, N.Y./Webster-Schroeder) in the triple jump and sophomore Tyler Mettille (Canfield/Canfield) who won the 500 meters.

Another all-conference individual that is returning is junior Dustin Matak (Salem/Salem), who was second by just .002 seconds in the 60 meter dash.

The OAC Indoor Track & Field Championships are Feb. 22-23 on the campus of Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio.
