GENEVA, Ohio -- Mount Union's men's indoor track and field team set a pair of school records and won six events at the SPIRE Open at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
Sophomore Sean Donnelly (Willoughby/Willoughby South) won two events as he bested his own school record in the weight throw (54-11.5) and won the shot put (50-4.75).
Another sophomore in Tyler Mettille (Canfield/Canfield) broke a 23-year old school record in the 400 meters with a time of 48.75.
Sophomore Duskin Matak (Salem/Salem) won the 60 meter dash (7.00) and Daniel Thornberry (East Liverpool/East Liverpool) won the high jump (6-4) as the other event winners.
Sophomore Wade Clark (Fairview Park/Fairview) finished second in the 800 meters (1:58.68) while sophomores Nick Banks (Bay Village/Bay), Bryan Derr (Lakeville/Loudonville), junior Joshua Clemence (Akron/Firestone) and freshman Andrew Milhoan (Magnolia/Sandy Valley) placed second in the distance medley relay (10:44.31).
Third places finishes came from junior Sam Ludgood (Webster, N.Y./Webster-Schroeder) in the 60 meter dash (7.03), Gentry in the 400 meters (49.99), Kohler in the 200 meters (22.47) and freshman Mitchell Kalning (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe).
Mount Union comes home next weekend to host the Ohio Athletic Conference Split Meet Friday, Jan. 25 in the Peterson Fieldhouse on campus.
