
NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Mount Union junior Sam Ludgood (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) and Tyler Mettille (Canfield/Canfield) both earned All-American honors at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois.
The top eight finishers in each event are All-Americans.
Ludgood earned All-American honors in two events as he finished fifth in the triple jump (48-11.5) on Saturday after placing seventh in long jump (23-1.25) Friday. He is now a three time All-American as he placed sixth in the triple jump last year.
Mettille placed third in the heptathlon with a school-record total of 5,117 points. He was just 160 points behind national champion Eric Larson of Central (Iowa) and it is his first All-American honor of his career.
The heptathlon is seven events -- 60 meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump, 60 meter hurdles, pole vault and 1000 meters.
Two other Purple Raiders competed in the heptathlon as freshman Andrew Milhoan (East Sparta/Sandy Valley) placed 10th (4,813) and sophomore Alex Kovalik (Aurora/Aurora) was 13th with 3,959 points.
Freshman Rory Juhn (Fairview Park/Fairview) finish 12 in the high jump (6-4.25) while sophomore Sean Donnelly (Willoughby/Willoughby South) did not get a mark in the shot put.
Mount Union posted 12 team points to finish in 13th place.
