Men's Track & Field in First Place After Day One at OAC Championships

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union's men's track and field team had four all-conference performances and is in first place in the team standings after day one of the 2013 Ohio Athletic Conference Track & Field Championships at Mount Union Stadium in Alliance, Ohio.

Six events went final on day one and the Purple Raiders are on their way to their third-straight and 30th overall OAC crown as with 54.5 points they have a 15.5 point lead on second place Heidelberg (39).  Marietta is in third place with 30 points followed closely by Muskingum with 29 points in fourth.

The top three finishes in every event earn All-OAC honors.

A trio of second place finishes headlined the day for Mount Union as junior Brandon Campbell (Stahlstown, Pa./Ligonier Valley) placed second in the javelin with a mark of 193-5 and sophomore Chase Swisher (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) in the long jump (22-3.75).

The other second place finish came in the 4x800 meter relay as three sophomores in Wade Clark (Fairview Park/Fairview), Bryan Derr (Lakeville/Loudonville) and Garrett Swisher (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) along with freshman Scott Whisler (Bryan/Bryan) posted a time of 7:47.25.

Sophomore Tyler Mettille (Canfield/Canfield) placed third in the javelin with a mark of 192-3 and ran the top time in the preliminaries of the 400 meters (48.93).

Day two of the meet begins at 10 am Saturday.
