GENEVA, Ohio -- Mount Union junior Sean Donnelly (Willoughby/Willoughby South) posted the fifth best mark of the season in winning the shot put Saturday at the North Coast Open at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
Donnelly had a mark of 54 feet 2.8 inches and also placed second in the weight throw with a mark of 58-11.9.
Gerardo Vargas (Painesville/Harvey) also won an event as he posted a mark of 15-1 in the pole vault.
There were also a number of other top performances on the day.
Chase Swisher (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) was second in the 400 meters (49.88) and third in the long jump (21-3.1).
Bryan Whitlock (Rochester, N.Y./School for Arts) was second in the 60 meter dash (7.02) and fifth in the 200 meters (22.58)
Andrew Milhoan (East Sparta/Sandy Valley) was third in the 60 meter hurdles (8.52) and fourth in the long jump (21-0).
Another second place finish was had by the distance medley relay team of Bryan Derr (Loudonville/Loudonville), Tyler Sparks (Norwalk/Norwalk), Scott Whisler (Bryan/Bryan) and Josh Clemence (Akron/Firestone).
Mount Union competes next Saturday, Feb. 1 at Ohio Northern in Ada.
