Men's Track & Field: No. 5 Mount Union Gets 1-2-3 Day at First Day of OAC Championships

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- No. 5 ranked Mount Union men's track and field team is in first place, set two conference records and won three events on the first day of the 2014 Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at Peterson Fieldhouse in Alliance.

The Purple Raiders, who are trying to defend their title and win their record 33rd conference title, have 52 points which is 13 points ahead of second place Ohio Northern (39) and 24 points clear of third place John Carroll (28).

Mount Union junior Sean Donnelly (Willoughby/Willoughby South) won the weight throw with conference record setting mark of 67-feet 9-inches.

Dan McGeary (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) won the 3000 meters with a time of 8:41.13 while Gerardo Vargas (Painesville/Harvey) won the pole vault with a season-best and NCAA provisional mark of 15-feet 8.25-inches.

The other conference record that went down came from Chase Swisher (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) in the 60 meter dash prelims with a time of 6.93.  

Swisher also earned all-conference honors with a third place finish in the long jump (22-10).
