WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- Mount Union's men indoor track and field team, ranked No. 4 in the nation, won the team title at the All-Ohio Championships for a fifth straight year Saturday at Otterbein University.
The Purple Raiders amassed 118 total points which was 22 points clear of second place Ohio Wesleyan (96) in the meet featuring all 21 NCAA Division III track programs in the state.
Mount Union won three events as senior Tyler Orewiler (Bucyrus/Colonel Crawford) won the pole vault (16-3.5), junior Zack Wukotich (Salem/Salem) won the high jump (6-8) and freshman Louis Berry (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shadyside Academy) won the 60 meter dash (6.92).
Sophomore Tyler Neff (Navarre/Fairless) also had a solid day with a third in the 400 meters (50.83), sixth in the 200 meters (22.69) and combined with senior Chad Gentry (Louisville/Louisville), sophomore Josh Weber (Wadsworth/Wadsworth) and freshman Clark Etzler (Elida/Elida) to place fifth in the 4x400 meter relay (3:28.18).
Other top performances came in third place finishes from senior Tyler Shumate (Wapokenta/Spencerville) in the weight throw (55-8.25) and junior Josh Hudson (North Ridgeville / North Ridgeville) in the heptathlon (3761), which was held last weekend.
Mount Union travels to the Kent State Tune-Up next Saturday Feb. 20 in the final meet before the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships.
