MARIETTA, Ohio -- Mount Union men's track and field team, ranked No. 6 in the nation, won its fourth straight and conference record 35th Ohio Athletic Conerence indoor track and field title Saturday at Marietta College.
The Purple Raiders scored 158.5 points which was 23.5 points ahead of second place Ohio Northern (135).
Senior Tyler Orewiler (Bucyrus/Colonel Crawford) who set a conference record winning the pole vault on Friday night was named OAC Field Athlete of the Year.
Kevin Lucas, in his sixth year as men's head coach, along with staff was named OAC Coaching Staff of the Year.
The top three results in every event earn All-OAC honors.
Mount Union won four other events on Saturday with sophomore Tyler Neff (Navarre/Fairless) in the 400 meters (49.77), freshman Louis Berry (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shadyside Academy) in the 55 meter dash (6.40), junior Ty Menear (Brunswick/Brunswick) in the 1000 meters (2:30.48) and junior Rory Juhn (Fairview Park/Fairview) in the high jump (6-7).
Neff tallied a team-best 16 points on the weekend as along with the win in the 400 he was fifth in the 200 meters and part of the second place and all-conference 4x200 meter relay with sophomore Josh Weber (Wadsworth/Wadsworth), junior Andrew Shrewsbury (Woodville/Woodmore) and freshman Clark Etzler (Elida/Elida).
Etzler also picked up all-conference honors with a second place finish in the 500 (1:06.28).
A group of third place finishes that earned all-conference accolades came from senior Alex Wilson (Macedonia/Nordonia) in the 5000 meters (15:20.11), Josh Hudson (North Ridgeville/North Ridgeville) in the high jump (6-4), junior Grant Slack (New Concord/John Glenn) in the triple jump (43-2.25) and junior Darrell Sullins in the 55 meter hurdles (7.95).
