WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- Mount Union's men's indoor track and field team, ranked No. 16 in the nation, claimed the team title at the All-Ohio Championships for a sixth straight year.
The Purple Raiders dominated the field as they scored 174.5 points which was 100.50 points ahead of second place and meet host Otterbein (74).
Mount Union earned its win with some strong individual performances -- winning five events and setting one meet record in the process.
Freshman AJ Digby (Totogany/Ostego) won the 400 meters in a meet record time of 48.72. It is the best time in the event in NCAA Division III so far this season and bests the old record of 49.39 set by Mount Union's Tyler Mettille.
The Raiders also went 1-2 with season-best times in the 60 meter hurdles as sophomore Connor Troyer (Sugarcreek/Garaway) won the event at 8.07 followed by freshman teammate Mason Plant (Shreve/Triway) at 8.26. Troyer now stands fifth best in the nation in the event.
Freshman Sean Sherman (Franklin/Bishop Fenwick) (52-8.25) and sophomore Austin Aikins (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) (48-4.5) went 2-3 in the shot put while sophomore Louis Berry (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) (6.97) and senior Andrew Shrewsbury (Woodville/Woodmore) (7.03) also went 2-3 in the 60 meter dash.
Other top performances came in a second place finish from Raphael Tshikala (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) in the triple jump (44-5.5) and a third place finish from Zack Wukotich (Salem/Salem) in the high jump (6-6).
Mount Union returns home to host the Raider Tune-Up next Saturday at Peterson Fieldhouse.
