Track & Field: Raiders Open Outdoor Season in Charlotte; Relay Teams Headline Top Performances

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Mount Union's men's and women's track and field teams began the outdoor portion of the 2017 schedule this past weekend at the 49er Classic at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte.

Two Purple Raider relay teams -- the men's 4x400 and women's 4x100 ran the best times in the nation in NCAA Division III so far this season.

The quartet of James Roth (Massillon/Perry), Sam Printy (Sandusky/Perkins), Clark Etzler (Elida/Elida) and AJ Digby (Tontogany/Otsego) ran a time of 3:16.00 in the 4x400 meter relay while the group of Steph Donley (Carrollton/Carrollton), Daijana Johnson (Alliance/Alliance), Katie Goedecke (Cuyahoga Falls/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) and Rachael Adams (Louisville/St. Thomas Aquinas) ran a top time in the 4x100 meter relay of 47.53.

The other NCAA provisional marks on the men's side included: Louis Berry (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy), who had the second best time in the nation in the 100 meter dash (10.8) and Alex Wilson (Macedonia/Nordonia) in the 5000 meters with the nation's second best time of 14:36.83.

Jaquill Scott (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park) threw the javelin 198-8, which is fourth best mark in the nation.

Hurdlers Mason Plant (Shreve/Triway) and Connor Troyer (Sugarcreek/Garaway) both posted times fifth-best in nation in the 110 meter hurdles (14.98) and 400 meter hurdles (55.59) respectively.

On the women's side, Adams posted the second best time in the nation in the 200 meters (25.24), Dana Crofoot (Perry/Perry) went 18-5 in the long jump for the third-best mark in the nation while Johnson was fourth in the nation in the 100 meter dash at 12.27.

Mount Union runs next Saturday, March 25 at the Yellow Jacket Open at Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio.
