COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The No. 2 ranked Mount Union men's track and field team leads after day one of the 2018 Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships Friday at Capital University in Columbus.
The Purple Raiders scored 41.5 points on the five events contested on day one and are 3.5 points ahead of second place John Carroll 38.
Mount Union is trying to win its seventh straight and conference record 38th team title.
Sophomore Matt Keim (Bolivar / Tusky Valley) grabbed Mount Union a win as he defended his title in the pole vault with a mark of 16-feet, 0.5-inches.
The top three finishers in each event earn All-OAC honors.
The Raiders got a second place finish from sophomore Connor Brogan (Dover) in the weight throw as he threw a season-best mark of 55-feet, 6.25-inches.
Other all-conference finishes came from a pair of third place finishes from seniors Jalen McGill (Laurel, Md. / High Point) in the long jump (21-10.75) and Adam Sopchak (Chardon) in the 5000 meters (15:21.81).
In qualifying for Saturday's running events, Mount Union grabbed the top spot in three events in juniors Louis Berry (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shady Side Academy) in the 60 meter dash and James Roth (Massillon / Perry) in the 400 meters and sophomore Mason Plant (Shreve / Triway) in the 60 meter hurdles.
The meet concludes Saturday.
