DELAWARE, Ohio -- No. 12 ranked Mount Union punched three more tickets to next week's NCAA Track & Field Championships and set a school-record in another event at the Great Lakes Final Qualifier Thursday at Ohio Wesleyan University.
Sophomore AJ Digby (Tontogany / Otsego) had a hand in two of those event qualifiers as he won the 400 meters with a season-best time of 47.52 which currently sits seventh in the nation, then he literally put a hand on a baton and ran a leg of the 4x100 meter relay that posted a season-best time of 41.20 which is fifth nationally. The other members of the relay team include freshmen Darian Littlejohn (Fulton, Md. / Reservoir ) and Malik Britt (Bossier City, La. / Airline) and senior Josh Weber (Wadsworth).
The qualifier came from junior Lucas Cooper (Hanoverton / United Local) who tossed a season-best mark of 164-feet, 2-inches in the discus to put him 14th on the national list.
The top 20 males in individual events and the top 16 relay teams nationally will compete next week at the NCAA Division III Championships at The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
A Purple Raider that had already qualified for next week's championships, sophomore Mason Plant (Shreve / Triway), tuned up by besting his own school record in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.26 which is fourth in the nation.
