Men's Indoor Track & Field: Mount Union Tabbed to Defend Conference Title

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -- Mount Union's men's indoor track and field team was picked to defend its Ohio Athletic Conference title as the Purple Raiders headline the coaches preseason poll.

Mount Union won its seventh straight and conference record 37th OAC title a year ago and the Raiders got eight of 10 first place votes for 80 points as picked by the conference's 10 head coaches.

The other two first place votes went to second place John Carroll with 70 total points while Ohio Northern (62 pts.), Otterbein (59 pts.) and Baldwin Wallace (48 pts.) make up the rest of the top five.

Three conference event champions return in senior Louis Berry (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shady Side Academy) in the 60 meter dash, junior A.J. Digby (Tontogany / Otsego) in the 500 meters and junior Mason Plant (Shreve / Triway) in the 60 meter hurdles.

Returning all-conference performers, top three finishers, include sophomore Connor Brogan (Dover) in the weight throw, junior Sean Sherman (Franklin / Bishop Fenwick) in the shot put, junior James Roth (Massillon / Perry) in the 400 meters and senior Clark Etzler (Elida) in the 500 meters.

Mount Union is back on the track January 18, 2019 at the Youngstown State Invite. The Raiders host both the Jim Wuske Invite (Feb. 2) and Raider Tune-Up (Feb. 16) before the OAC Championships Feb. 22-23 at the Ohio Northern Sports Center in Ada.
