NEW ORLEANS -- Mount Union's men's indoor track and field team is ranked third in the preseason national rankings done by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The Purple Raiders won the national team title a year ago and Mount Union returns six All-Americans off that squad.
Junior Mason Plant (Shreve / Triway) won the national title in the 60 meter hurdles while three members of the national champion 4x400 meter relay team return in seniors James Roth (Massillon / Perry) and Clark Etzler (Elida) along with junior AJ Digby (Tontogany / Otsego).
The Raiders were 0.01 from picking up another event win a year ago as senior Louis Berry (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shady Side Academy) was second in the 60 meter dash while junior Sean Sherman (Franklin / Bishop Fenwick) is back after a fourth place finish in the shot put.
UW-Oshkosh is on top of the rankings followed by North Central (Ill.) in second.
On the women's side, Mount Union is ranked 34th in the preseason ranking.
The NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held March 8-9 at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
