ALLIANCE, Ohio – The No. 4 ranked Mount Union men's indoor track and field team won nine events at the Jim Wuske Invitational Saturday at Peterson Fieldhouse in Alliance.
Evan Hershberger (Dalton) and Lucas Cooper (Hanoverton / United Local) each posted season-best and NCAA provisional marks in the high jump and the shot put. Hershberger went 6-feet, 9-inches in high jump which is fifth best mark in the nation so far this season while Cooper went 54-feet, 2.5-inches in the shot put to sit fourth nationally.
The Purple Raiders went 1-2 in the 60-meter hurdles as Mason Plant (Shreve / Triway) won the event with a time of 8.10 followed by Connor Troyer (Sugarcreek / Garaway) at 8.14. Troyer's time was a season-best and is sixth-best in the nation in the event.
Mount Union also went 1-2-3 in the 500 meters as Dylan Campbell (Cuyahoga Falls) got the win (1:07.93), Mitchell Milem (Columbus / St. Charles) was second (1:09.36) and Isaac Phillips (Milford, Mich.) was third (1:10.04).
The Raiders other two wins came in the relays as the 4x200 meter team of Ladedrick Phillips (Irving, Texas / Trinity), Etzler, Zach Munchick (Westfield Center / Cloverleaf) and James Roth (Massillon / Perry) set a meet record at 1:32.36 and the distance medley relay team of Nicky Landis (Navarre / Fairless), Benny Shaffer (Streetsboro), Casey Kropka (New London), Jon Bach (Tallmadge) ran a time of 10:59.84.
Mount Union competes next week at the All-Ohio Championships at Otterbein University in Westerville.
