ADA, Ohio – Mount Union's men's track and field team, ranked No. 4 in the nation, won its seventh straight and record 38th overall team title at the 2019 Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Championships Saturday at Ohio Northern University.
The Purple Raiders won eight of the 19 events contested and scored 180 points which was 14 ahead of second place Otterbein (166).
Junior James Roth (Massillon / Perry) won OAC Male Sprinter of the Meet honors as the junior won the 400 meter dash with a conference championship record time of 48.46 seconds. Roth was also second in the 200 meters (22.50) and part of the conference champion 4x200 meter relay team with sophomore Alex Leeper (Cambridge) with juniors Clark Etzler (Elida) and AJ Digby (Tontogany / Otsego).
Senior Louis Berry (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shady Side Academy) set championship and facility records in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.85 to win the event.
Digby also won the 500 meters (1:06.27) while Etzler was part of the champion 4x400 meter relay (3:26.69) team with Mitchell Milem (Columbus / St. Charles Prep), Isaac Phillips (Milford, Mich.) and Tyler Gill (Greenville, Pa. / Reynolds).
The Raiders other three wins came from junior Connor Troyer (Sugarcreek / Garaway) in the 60 meter hurdles, freshman Jacob Shedd (Murrysville, Pa. / Franklin Regional) in the triple jump (45-10.75) and junior Sean Sherman (Franklin / Bishop Fenwick) in the shot put (56-10.25).
Head Coach Kevin Lucas and his staff won OAC Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
