The nine members of the No. 4 nationally ranked men's team are in six events as the Purple Raiders are the defending national champions. Mount Union has finished in the top 10 in the nation 14 different times in its history.
For each men's and women's individual event contested, including the heptathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested, the top 12 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted into the competition.
The top eight finishers in each event earn All-American honors.
Six of the men's qualifiers are past All-Americans.
In two events, Mount Union will be defending national titles -- the 60 meter hurdles and the 4x400 meter relay.
Junior Mason Plant (Shreve / Triway) swept the indoor 60 meter hurdles and outdoor 110 meter hurdles a year ago and he enters this week meet with the nation's top time in the 60 meter hurdles at 8.01 seconds. Senior Connor Troyer (Sugarcreek / Garaway) is also qualified in the 60 meter hurdles as the 10th seed. He won the Ohio Athletic Conference title in the event two weeks ago and was an All-American two years ago.
The 4x400 meter relay team enters as the fifth seed and three members of the team that swept both indoor and outdoor national titles are back in senior Clark Etzler (Elida) and juniors James Roth (Massillon / Perry) and AJ Digby (Tontogany / Otsego).
Digby and Roth are also qualified in the 400 meters as the fourth and fifth seeds. A year ago, Digby ran in the indoor championships and won the title in the outdoor championships.
Junior Sean Sherman (Franklin / Bishop Fenwick) is back in the national meet for a second straight year in the shot put. Sherman was an All-American both indoors (4th) and outdoors (7th) in the event a year ago.
