Track and Field: Men's 4x400 Relay Runs Nation's Top Time at Walsh Invite

NORTH CANTON, Ohio -- Mount Union's men's 4x400 meter relay team ran the top time in NCAA Division III so far this season winning the event at the Walsh Invitational Saturday in North Canton.

The team of freshman Tyler Gill (Greenville, Pa. / Reynolds), senior Clark Etzler (Elida) and juniors James Roth (Massillon / Perry) and AJ Digby (Tontogany / Otsego) ran a time of 3:13.99. Etzler, Roth and Digby were part of the Raiders national championships in the event both indoors this year and outdoors a year ago.

Digby also ran the fifth-best time in NCAA Division III in the 400 meters as he won the event with a time of 48.22.

The men's team, ranked third in the nation, got a win in the discus from Lucas Cooper (Hanoverton / United Local) and also finished first and second in two other events with sophomores Jeremiah Gyulai (Stow / Stow-Munroe Falls) and Garrett Daniello (Greenville, Pa. / Reynolds) in the javelin and junior Tanner Slack (New Concord / John Glenn) and sophomore Evan Hershberger (Dalton) in the high jump. Junior Mason Plant (Shreve / Triway) also placed second in the 110 meter hurdles to round out the Raiders top performances.

The top finishes on the women's side came from sophomore Sabrina Stocker (Madison), who posted an NCAA provisional qualifying time with a season-best time of 14.89 and third place finish in the 100 meter hurdles, sophomore Cortni Arp (Copley) placed second in the 400 meters while freshman Michaelina Terranova (North Jackson / Jackson-Milton) was third in the 400 meter hurdles.

Mount Union competes next Friday, Apr. 19 at the Wittenberg Invitational in Springfield.
