Men's Indoor Track & Field: Mount Union Tabbed to Defend Conference Title

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -- Mount Union's men's indoor track and field team was picked to defend its Ohio Athletic Conference title as the Purple Raiders headline the coaches preseason poll.

Mount Union won its eighth straight and conference record 38th OAC title a year ago and the Raiders got six of 10 first place votes for 78 points as picked by the conference's 10 head coaches.

The other four first place votes went to second place John Carroll with 75 total points while Otterbein (65 pts.), Ohio Northern (55 pts.), and Baldwin Wallace (45 pts.) make up the rest of the top five.

Five conference event champions return in sophomore Jacob Shedd (Murrysville, Pa. / Franklin Regional) in the triple jump, senior Sean Sherman (Franklin / Bishop Fenwick) in the shot put, senior Connor Troyer (Sugarcreek / Garaway) in the 60 meter hurdles, senior James Roth (Massillon / Massillon Perry) in the 400 meter dash and senior AJ Digby (Tontogany / Otsego) in the 500 meter run.

Returning all-conference performers, top three finishers, include senior Lucas Cooper (Hanoverton / United Local) in the shot put, senior Mason Plant (Shreve / Triway) in the 60 meter hurdles, and shed in the long jump.

Mount Union is back on the track January 17, 2019 at the Youngstown State Invite. The Raiders host both the Jim Wuske Invite (Feb. 8) and Raider Tune-Up (Feb. 22) before the OAC Championships Feb. 28-29 at the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center in Marietta, Ohio.
