Marietta, Ohio -- Mount Union's men's track and field team, ranked No. 6 in the nation, had a pair of wins and a number of high qualifying marks after day one of the 2020 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships Friday at Marietta College in Marietta.
Mount Union grabbed 79 points in the seven events contested on day one which leaves them 19 points ahead of second place Otterbein.
The two wins both came from freshman with Matt McBride (Conneaut) in the 500 and Jared Storm in the 400.
The men also got all-conference performances (top three finishes) from senior AJ Digby (Tontogany Otsego) and freshman Montrell DeVaughn (Canton / Canton McKinley) finishing second and third in the 500.
The Purple Raiders scored 30 points in the 500 from six scorers and 22 points from four scorers in the 400.
Mount Union got two all-conference preformances in the field events with junior Jeremiah Gyulai (Stow) in the weight throw finishing second and freshman Blaine Kitchen (Tontogany / Otsego) taking third in the pole vault.
There were two prelims today in the 55-meter hurdles where senior Mason Plant (Shreve Triway) sits first and broke his own school record running 7.48 seconds and senior Connor Troyer (Sugarcreek Garaway) sits second.
The other prelim was the 55-meter dash where the Raiders qualified four to the finals.
The final day of the meet begins at 10 a.m. Saturday.
