Men's Track and Field: #6 Mount Union Wins 8th Straight and 39th Overall OAC Indoor Title

MARIETTA, Ohio – Mount Union's men's track and field team, ranked No. 6 in the nation, won its eighth straight and record 39th overall team title at the 2020 Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Championships Saturday at Marietta College.

The Purple Raiders won six of the 19 events contested and scored 214 points which was 66 ahead of second place Otterbein (148).

The men got an one two finish from senior teammates Mason Plant (Shreve / Triway) who broke the school record winning the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 7.40 and Connor Troyer (Sugarcreek / Garaway) with a time of 7.54 earning all-conference (top three performance).

The Raiders won the 4x200 meter relay with freshman Matt McBride (Conneaut), sophomore Tyler Gill (Greenville, Pa. / Reynolds), and senior James Roth (Massillon / Perry) and AJ Digby (Tontogany / Otsego) running a time of 1:29.74.

Mount Union got its other two victories of the day in the jumps with junior Evan Hershberger (Dalton) winning the high jump in a height of 6-feet 4.25-inches and freshman Brody Coleman (Knox, Pa. / Keystone) jumping 46-feet 10.75-inches in the triple jump.

Mount Union got All-conference performances from sophomore Jacob Shedd (Murrysville, Pa. / Franklin Regional) in the triple jump finishing third, in the shot put senior teammates Sean Sherman (Franklin / Bishop Fenwick) and Lucas Cooper (Hanoverton / United Loacal) grabbed second and third, freshman Jared Storm (Baberton) picked up third in the 55-meter dash, sophomore Hunter Probert (Gnadenhutten Indian Valley) picked up third in the 1,000 meters and the 4x400 meter relay team consiting of freshmen Justin Knoch (Canton / Glen Oak), Josh Momeyer (Livonia, Mi. / Churchill), Montrell DeVaughn (Canton Canton McKinley) and junior Isaac Phillips (Milford, Mich. / Milford) grabbed second.

Head Coach Kevin Lucas and his staff won OAC Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
