Men's Volleyball: Raiders Improve to 5-0 With Two Wins at Hiram

HIRAM, Ohio - The Mount Union men's volleyball team defeated Elmira (N.Y) and Hiram 3-1 and 3-1 in a tri-match Sunday afternoon. 

In a 25-17, 25-19, 25-22, 25-15 win over Elmira (N.Y),  junior Justin Sibbel (Stow / Stow-Munroe Falls) led the Purple Raiders (5-0) offense with a game-high 23 kills and sophomore Jeremy Leyden (Cuyahoga Falls / Akron Hoban) added a game-high 36 assists. Defensively, Leyden and sophomore Steven Grenier (Hawthorn Woods, Ill. / Lake Zurich) recorded 10 digs, while sophomore Sam Matonis (Macedonia / Walsh Jesuit) contributed with five blocks. 

Mount Union defeated Hiram 25-18, 25-15, 25-20, 25-21. Sophomore Mark Bruns (Columbus / Upper Arlington) and Leyden led the offense with 16 kills and 44 assists. Defending Raider territory was Sibbel and Grenier with 10 digs each and freshman Andrew Cross (St. Louis, Mo. / St. Louis University High) with three blocks. 

The Raiders continue play Thursday, Feb. 6 hosting Wittenberg in their home opener at 7 p.m.
