Men's Volleyball: Raiders Split Tri-Match at Home

ALLIANCE, Ohio - Mount Union's men's volleyball team split a pair of matches against Alderson Broaddus (W.V) and Geneva (Pa.) Tuesday evening in Timken Gymnasium. 

The Purple Raiders (10-2) swept Alderson Broaddus 25-14, 25-11, 33-31 then fell to Geneva in five sets 25-23, 25-21, 25-19, 25-23, 15-12. 

Against Alderson Broaddus, junior Justin Sibbel (Stow / Stow-Munroe Falls) had a team-high 11 kills while sophomore Jeremy Leyden (Cuyahoga Falls / Akron Hoban) recorded 35 assists to lead the Mount Union offense. Defensively, sophomore Steven Grenier (Hawthorn Woods, Ill. / Lake Zurich) contributed with 14 digs while freshman Andrew Cross (St. Louis, Mo. / St. Louis University High) had a game-high five blocks. 

Sophomore Mark Bruns (Columbus / Upper Arlington) tallied a season-high 18 kills while Sibbel added 15 kills to lead the offense against Geneva. Leyden added a game-high 37 assists. Junior Andrew Chen (Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Park Center Senior) recorded 17 digs with Grenier right behind him with 16 digs of his own. Once again, Cross had a game-high six blocks with sophmore Sam Matonis (Macedonia / Walsh Jesuit) recorded five. 

Mount Union next travels to Saint Louis, Mo. to take on Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League opponent, Fontbonne, at 8 p.m.
