Mount Union Men's Cross Country Opens Season With Third Place Finish at Walker Invite

GRAND ISLAND, N.Y.--The No. 21 ranked Mount Union's men's cross country team opened its 2010 season with a third place finish Saturday at the Buffalo State Daniel Walker Invite in suburban Buffalo, New York.

The Purple Raiders had 79 points which left them just eight behind second place Fredonia State (N.Y.) (71 points).  NCAA Division II Edinboro (Pa.), ranked No. 12 in the nation, had five of the top eight finishers to win the event with 23 points.

Senior Ty Griffin (Massillon/Massillon Perry) was the top Mount Union runner in 10th place overall with a time of 26:09.  Fellow senior Scott Wolfe (East Palestine/East Palestine) was just behind him in 13th place (26:34) and freshman Joshua Clemence (Akron/Firestone) in his first collegiate race placed 18th (26:59).

Senior Erik Reed (East Liverpool) and junior Tim Kelly (Lakewood) finished 20th and 22nd respectively to round out the team score.

Mount Union will be in action next Saturday at the Walsh Ric Sayre Invite in North Canton, Ohio.
