Men's Cross Country: Mount Union Men Second at Walsh Ric Sayre Invite

NORTH CANTON, Ohio -- Mount Union's men's cross country team opened the 2017 season with a second place finish at the Ric Sayre Invitational hosted by Walsh University Friday in North Canton.

Mount Union tallied 58 points and was led by senior Adam Sopchak (Chardon Chardon) who was seventh overall with a time of 25:53.20 while fellow senior Nick Thomas (Louisville Louisville) was right behind him in eighth at 25:54.14.

A trio of Mount Union runners -- sophomore Jared Marsh (Massillon / Massillon Jackson), junior Casey Kropka (New London New London) and senior Joe Colon (Lorain / Amherst Steele) came in 22nd, 23rd and 24th respectively. Junior Colten Trimble (Hookstown, Pa. / South Side Area) in 27th and Jon Bach (Wadsworth/Wadsworth) in 31st rounded out the team scoring.

Walsh took four of the top five spots to win the team title with 18 points.

Mount Union next runs at the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational next Saturday, Sept. 9, in Delaware, Ohio.
