Men's Cross Country: Mount Union Fifth in USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region Poll

NEW ORLEANS -- Mount Union's men's cross country team is fifth in the latest Great Lakes Region Poll done by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) members Calvin and Albion hold the top two spots in the poll followed by Otterbein in third and MIAA member Trine (Ind.) in fourth.

Aside from Otterbein and the Purple Raiders, two other Ohio Athletic Conference members are in the poll as Ohio Northern is eighth and John Carroll is 10th.

The Purple Raiders placed second at the Franklin (Ind.) Grizzly Invite which was a strong showing on the same course that will host the NCAA Regional meet later on this year.

Junior Jon Bach (Wadsworth) covered the 8k course in a time of 27:05.80 to finish in third place which was just over a second behind race winner Kiehl Smith of Albion (Mich.).

Sophomore Nicky Landis (Navarre / Fairless) came in 19th place (28:16.90) followed closely by freshman Dylan Bailey (Alliance) in 21st place (28:16.90) as the other top Mount Union finishers.

The Raiders next race on Friday at 6 p.m. at the Penn State-Behrend Invitational in Erie, Pa.
