KISSIMMEE, Fla.—The Mount Union softball team dropped a pair of games, 11-3 to No. 6 Cortland State (N.Y.) and 4-0 to St. Benedict (Minn.), on Sunday at the Osceola County Complex.

Cortland State scored four runs in the first inning, but the Purple Raiders used a fourth inning rally to make it 4-3.

Freshman Amy Brown (Uniontown/Lake) delivered a two-out single with a pair of runners in scoring position to get the Raiders on the scoreboard. Sophomores Keilah Capriola (Akron/Coventry) and Brittany Papp (Uniontown/Green) scored on the play. Capriola was pinch-running for freshman Leigh Siedlak (Westerville/Westerville South), who had walked earlier in the inning.

Following a walk by junior Kristen Gromes (Navarre/Fairless), junior Marissa Earl (Massillon/Massillon Washington) brought Brown home with a single.

The Red Dragons responded with five runs in the fourth inning, followed by two more runs in the fifth inning.

Junior Rachel McAninch (West Jefferson/West Jefferson) worked 4 1/3 innings for the Raiders and recorded three strikeouts.

Abby Martin earned the win for Cortland State.

Mount Union was held to just one hit—a single by Brown—in the loss to St. Benedict.

Senior Bre Willis (Navarre/Fairless) fired a complete game and finished with four strikeouts.

St. Benedict (2-1) totaled nine hits and used a three-run third inning to pick up the victory. Rachel Nelson improved to 2-0 for the Blazers.

Mount Union (0-2) will return to the diamond on Monday with games against Aurora (Ill.) and Albion (Mich.) at 11 am and 3 pm, respectively.
