AUSTINTOWN, Ohio—Mount Union junior outfielder Marissa Earl (Massillon/Massillon Washington) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week.
Earl went 10-for-22 at the plate with nine RBI, two home runs, one double, eight runs, and one stolen base to help the Purple Raiders go 4-2 last week, which included a 5-0 win over first place Ohio Northern.
She hit safely in the first five games of the week, as her hitting streak reached a team-best eight games. Earl had four multi-hit games, including a season-best three hits in a 7-0 win over Case Western Reserve. She scored a run in all six games and has now scored in nine consecutive games.
Earl's best series of the week came at John Carroll on Thursday. She went 3-for-7 with a pair of home runs and six RBI as the Raiders split with the Blue Streaks.
On the season, Earl is hitting .298 and leads the team with 23 RBI. She also has four home runs, two triples, three doubles, and five stolen bases.
Mount Union is 14-18 overall and will need a strong finish to qualify for conference tournament after a 4-8 start in OAC play. The Raiders have a busy week, beginning with their home finale against Capital on Tuesday at 3:30 pm at 23rd Street Field. They then travel to Ohio Wesleyan and Heidelberg for doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
