Softball Rallies For 3-2 Victory Over Lake Forest

KISSIMMEE, Fla - - Senior Kristen Gromes (Navarre/Fairless) had three hits and drove in two runs as the Mount Union softball team defeated Lake Forest (Ill.) 3-2 Wednesday in Kissimmee, Florida. 

Gromes drove in the winning run in the top of 7th inning as she doubled home senior Rachel Jesso (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant). Jesso reached first base as she drew a walk. 

With the win, Mount Union improves to 3-2 while Lake Forest falls to 1-2. 

Senior Rachel McAninch (West Jefferson/West Jefferson) picked up her second victory of the year as she came out of the bull pen in the second inning struck out 10 and allowed only one hit over the final 5.1 innings.  

The Purple Raiders took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as they took advantage of two Lake Forest errors to plate a run.

Mount Union returned the favor to Lake Forest in the bottom of the second inning as an error led to two unearned runs and gave the Foresters a 2-1 lead. 

The Raiders would come right back in the top of the third inning to tie the game as Gromes hit her first home run of the year over the right field fence.  

Mount Union returns to the field tomorrow when it faces Bridgewater (Va.) at 9:00 a.m. and St. Norbert (Wis.) at 11:00 a.m.
