KISSIMMEE, Fla - - Mount Union's women's softball team defeated Mount Saint Jospeh's 8-0 (5 innings) and Lakeland (Wis.) 1-0 Friday afternoon in Kissimmee, Florida.
With the win, Mount Union now has won seven straight games and improves to 9-2 overall on the season.
Senior Rachel McAninch (West Jefferson/West Jefferson) picked up her fifth victory of the season as she threw a no-hitter in the Raiders victory over Lakeland.
In the first game of the day against Mount St. Joseph, freshman Andi VanSickle (Loudonville/Loudonville) earned her first career victory as she pitched five strong innings, allowing just two hits while striking out six.
The Raiders took a 1-0 lead as sophomore Leigh Siedlak (Westerville/Westerville South) singled in the bottom of the first inning which scored Carmichael. Carmichael had reached base on a walk then proceeded to steal second.
Freshman Jess Moracz (Westlake/Westlake) got her first career RBI in the bottom of the second inning as she grounded out to the shortstop but senior Alex Mayo (Greenville/Ansonia) scored on the play to put the Raiders up 2-0.
Later in the second inning, Senior Kristen Gromes (Navarre/Fairless) and Earl both hit back-to-back singles which scored Jesso and Gromes respectively. Both runs were unearned.
Mount Union would add three more runs in the bottom of the third inning and another run in the fifth inning as it would go on for the 8-0 victory in five innings.
Mount Union concludes in Spring Break trip tomorrow with a game against Anderson (Ind.) at 9:00 a.m. and Augsburg (Minn.) at 11:00 a.m.
