The Mount Union Softball team faces Baldwin Wallace in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Berea.
Mount Union enters Saturday's series with a 14-3 record, tied for first place in the OAC with a 4-0 record after four-straight conference wins over Otterbein and Muskingum.
The Purple Raiders are among team's receiving votes in this week's NFCA (National Fastpitch Coaches Association) Top 25 poll.
The Raiders feature the OAC's No. 2 rated pitching staff with an ERA of 1.65. Their pitching staff is led by senior Rachel McAninch (West Jefferson/West Jefferson) who ranks first in the conference in strikeouts (79), third in wins (7), ERA (1.49) and saves (2).
At the plate, Mount Union has a team batting average of .285 and is led by senior Kristen Gromes (Navarre/Fairless), who has a batting average of .462, has 24 hits, three home runs, 13 RBI and seven stolen bases.
Baldwin Wallace has won four-straight non-conference games and comes into Saturday with an overall record of 12-4 and 1-1 in the OAC
The Yellow Jackets have a team ERA of 3.39 and are led by Tabitha Murray who ranks first in the conference in wins (9) and is second in strikeouts (65) and innings pitched (65). Murray was named NFCA National Player of the Week earlier this season after she tossed back-to-back perfect games against Sul Ross State (Texas) and Edgewood (Wis.).
At the plate, the Jackets have a team batting average .316 and are led by Murray who is batting .476 with two home runs and 13 RBI.
Mount Union plays six-straight home games next week starting Tuesday at 3:30 pm against John Carroll at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.
