Softball Splits A Pair With Baldwin Wallace Saturday
BEREA, Ohio - - Mount Union's softball team split a pair of games with Baldwin Wallace Saturday afternoon in an Ohio Athletic Conference softball series at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field in Berea, Ohio.
With the split, Mount Union is now 15-4 overall and 5-1 in the OAC, while Baldwin Wallace is 13-5 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
In the second game of the day, the Purple Raiders recorded season-highs with 12 runs and 14 hits as they defeated the Yellow Jackets 12-5.
Sophomore Michelle Stiltner (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland) recorded her sixth win of the season as she pitched a complete game allowing three earned runs on seven hits while striking out one.
Baldwin Wallace would come right back in the bottom of the first inning with two runs to take a 2-1 lead after one inning of play.
Siedlak singled home senior Marissa Earl (Massillon/Washington), freshman Megan Okuda (Gibsonia, Pa/Pine-Richland) launched a two run home run, which was the first of her career over the left field fence and senior Alex Mayo (Greenville/Ansonia) scored an unearned run to cap a four run third inning as the Raiders would take a 6-2 lead after three innings.
Alison Fiorucci hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the Raiders lead to three, 6-3.
Mayo hit her first home run of the season in the top of the fifth inning. Two batters later, Gromes reached first on an error, Jesso advanced to second, Leighty advanced to third and Mayo scored an unearned run on the play. Gromes then proceeded to steal home and the Raiders would lead 9-3 after five innings.
Siedlak hit her team-leading fourth home run of the season and Mount Union would add a run in the sixth and seven inning as they would go on for the 12-5 victory.
In the first game of the afternoon, Tabitha Murray recorded her 11th win of the season for the Yellow Jackets as she pitched a complete game shutout limiting the Raiders to just two hits while striking out seven.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when Alison Fiorucci led of with a home run to left center field to give the Jackets a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Murray added another run as she singled through the left side to drive in Lauren Feciuch.
Siedlak recorded both hits for the Raiders.
Mount Union returns home for its next game Tuesday when its hosts John Carroll at 3:30 p.m.
