The Mount Union softball team travels to Columbus, Ohio to face Capital for an Ohio Athletic Conference series Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
Mount Union enters Wednesday's series with an overall record of 16-9 and is tied for fourth in the OAC standings with a 6-4 record. The Purple Raiders are coming off two losses to Case Western Reserve in their last games.
The Raiders feature the OAC's No. 2 pitching staff that has an ERA of 2.33. The staff is led by senior Rachel McAninch (West Jefferson/West Jefferson) who has a 9-6 record and leads the conference in ERA (1.91) and is second in strikeouts (106).
At the plate, the Raiders have a batting average of .273 and are led by junior Brittany Papp (Uniontown/Green) who is batting .400 on the season. Senior Kristen Gromes (Navarre/Fairless) leads the team in hits (31), RBI (17) and is tied for the team-lead in home runs (4) with sophomore Leigh Siedlak (Westerville/Westerville South).
Capital enters Wednesday's double-header with an 20-8 overall record and is tied for first in the OAC standings with a 8-2 record. The Crusaders swept Baldwin Wallace in their last games.
The Crusaders feature the OAC's No. 4 pitching staff that has an ERA of 3.19. Alyssa Patznick and Brooke Billings each have a 10-4 record on the season which is tied for the team lead while Billings leads the team with a 2.69 ERA.
At the plate, Capital has a batting average of .350 which ranks second in the conference. Devan Boggs leads the team and is tied for the conference lead in home runs (9) and ranks third in the conference in batting average (.490) and RBI (35)
Last season, the Crusaders finished the season with a 21-17 record. Mount Union defeated Capital in both of its games last season.
