McAninch And VanSickle Named OAC Softball Players Of The Week
AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - - Mount Union softball players Rachel McAninch (West Jefferson/West Jefferson) and Andi VanSickle (Loudonville/Loudonville) have been named Ohio Athletic Conference players of the week.
McAninch was named OAC Pitcher of the Week and VanSickle was named OAC Hitter of the week.
McAninch went 3-0 with 1.11 ERA and had 28 strikeouts to help the Purple Raiders to sweeps of both Marietta and Wilmington. She tossed her third no-hitter of the season in a 9-0 (5 inn.) victory over Marietta and struck out a career-high 15 batters in a 9-3 victory over Marietta to complete the sweep of the Pioneers.
She has a 13-8 record on the season and ranks second in the conference in ERA (1.84) and strikeouts (151).
VanSickle went 8-for-10 from the plate with six runs, four RBI, one double and one stolen base in the Raiders four games this week. Her best game of the week came in the 9-3 victory over Marietta where she went 4-for-4 with two runs, two RBI and a double.
VanSickle is batting .302 with nine RBI, 12 runs and 3 stolen bases.
Mount Union is 22-11 on the season and earned the number three seed in the OAC tournament with a 12-6 conference record. The Raiders will play the number two seed John Carroll Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Clowson Field in Columbus, Ohio.
